Oct 1, 2024 - Nairobi, Kenya — As countries conclude a Head of Delegations meeting today in Nairobi for an  international legally binding agreement to end plastic pollutio n or the Global Plastics Treaty, civil society groups have been uniting their voices and held simultaneous  actions  to emphasize a call for a strong and effective global plastics treaty and show solidarity with high ambition countries, such as those in the  African Group, Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS),  and the Philippines  that have been advocating for strong treaty measures.  The final scheduled plastics treaty negotiations will take place in  Busan, Republic of Korea  later this year. Since the process started in 2022, civil society groups, alongside Indigenous Peoples representatives and independent scientists have been calling on governments to ensure that the treaty includes legally binding measures that cover the whole life cycle of plastics,

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) in Warri, Delta State, Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh says the University will set up a Post Graduate Diploma Program in zero waste management technology, to bridge the knowledge gap that has truncated waste management and zero waste policies in the state and the country. The Vice Chancellor stated this at the launching of the” Zero Waste Campus Project” in FUPRE, organized by Community Development Advocacy Foundation (CODAF), as part of the first phase of the “End Single Use Plastics Campaign in Campus", aimed at fostering zero-waste governance in Nigerian universities by launching a "plastic-free campus" initiative, and reinforcing the broader campaign to prohibit single-use plastics in Delta State. LET’S BE TOLERANT - Elvira Jordan Good Morning Beloved, Today I want to share a little word about TOLERANCE. At the time I penned this down, a certain Christian female student was lynched in Sokoto State by some Muslims, in the name of religious blasphemy. This incident had turned on something inside  a lot of people, especially Christians, pointing us to the fact that something is really wrong in the world around us.  Most of us had condemned the actions of the Muslims, forgetting that even outside religion, we fail to accommodate the excesses and individualism of others.  Asides the dark religious, traditional and cultural blankets we use to cover the depth of evil perpetrated by man against man, you will see that humanity has lost it.  It is now a world of “survival of the fittest”. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a that it will shut down all major cities in Nigeria, in protest of the recent increment in the price of petrol, and what it described as  "gross incompetence" of the NNPC.
