Durban, South Africa — The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) has launched the Africa Zero Waste Academy, the first Academy from the GAIA/BFFP Africa Team.  The Africa Zero Waste Academy is a capacity-building program, with its roots stemming from the Asia Pacific region, aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to implement zero-waste solutions in their communities.  It also aims to empower both existing and aspiring Zero Waste Implementers by providing them with the concepts and resources necessary to create or improve Zero Waste systems in their cities and countries. In a sensitization program for students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, experts have warned against the danger of drug abuse, calling for concerted efforts to end the menace of drugs and its effect on young people for a better society. The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) says there is a contradiction between the ideals of the significance of the date “June 12” and the happenings in Rivers State. In a statement released by the group, they described the situation in Rivers State as “creeping authoritarianism”.
