(Children’s Day Special)
Good Morning Beloved!
The life of every man or woman is shaped by their childhood experiences. Every man or woman you see today is a product of the first 15 years of their lives.
The pleasant lady you know, bad attitudes you see, the cheerful person you like, the angry man you know, the bitter lady you see are all a product of the environment they grew up, the people they grew up with, the kind of people they came in contact with and the experiences they had in the first 15 years of their lives.
As long as a child can see and hear, they understand everything that goes on around them, they feel just like every other human adult. Even worse because an adult can easily process negativity based on experiences. For children, negative experiences are everlasting scars that they carry all their lives, unless they take extra efforts to heal those scars.
Most of the time, we take actions and treat children poorly with the excuse that “he/she is just a child”. Sorry to disappoint you but that child is as aware of life as you are. Even if not fully, they understand everything that you do.
In schools, churches and even in homes, people treat children like they don’t matter; especially the less fortunate children. You see a child who is either poor, week or less privileged; that child has challenges that they face internally because of the conditions they find themselves and then they go to school, church or other social gatherings and are reminded of their situation everyday by the adults around them. They watch others being treated better than them because they dress better or are from more fortunate backgrounds and you think they don’t notice?
In schools and even churches, teachers and care givers tend to pay more attention to the children that come from rich homes. These ones are given special seats to sit on, the teachers talk to them with caution when the need arises. These ones are hardly punished when they do wrong and their needs are placed as priority, just because they have influential parents or they are from rich homes.
The poor kids on the other hand always feel like they have committed an offense even when they haven’t done anything, because these care givers handle them based on their poor financial status. If they dare to speak in class, they are punished severely for it. The slightest mistake they make will attract the most severe punishment one can ever have. Their teachers speak to them carelessly and treat them carelessly, not knowing that these kids can understand every action and every word that is said to them.
There are children who are naturally stubborn and because they are stubborn, the teachers take it upon themselves to punish the child by constantly humiliating them in front of their mates, calling them all sorts of names and punishing them extremely, even when it’s not necessary.
Look deeply into the life of a kid who is stubborn, some of them are from very poor homes or homes where love is lacking. Hunger and lack of love and attention can translate to poor behavior.
Some of them live with uncles and aunties who maltreat them, so when they come to school, church or other public places, they transfer that aggression on their mates. Some of them are house helps who work tirelessly day and night and ultimately find it difficult to concentrate in class, so they transfer their energy into other less productive things. Some of them lack the attention of their parents so they come to school or to church and try to get attention by being chaotic.
Behind the weakness of every child is a child that needs to be loved, pampered and corrected with love, not anger and bitterness. These ill treatments end up affecting the lives of these children even more, and will end up damaging their psyche.
I know of kids who were bullied in church or school environments, not by their school mates but by their teachers and care givers, just because they are under privileged. Trust me, those kids grew up to be very bitter and angry people and the society is suffering from those actions today.
Some of us come to social media to cry against ‘rape, violence against children etc” yet we damage children every day with our attitude towards them just because they are under privileged or just because we are no their parents.
Some people even mistreat children because of the attitudes of their parents; paying them back with unkindness because of something their parents did. Cut these kids some slack.
Some religious women who look godly are like demons to their step children and house helps, and these children are afraid to speak up or have been molded in a way that they now feel that is how the world is meant to be.
Look at the lives of the killers, armed robbers, rapist and other monsters we have in our society today, they are children who grew up without love. That child you are treating with wickedness today may grow up to pull a trigger at you tomorrow. It’s not an evil spirit, it’s just karma.
Treat every child equally no matter the circumstance you see them in today. Treat every child with love because you don’t know what their future holds for them. Every child deserves to be loved no matter how bad they are. The only way to change a child and to correct them effectively is with love.
This doesn’t excuse the place of discipline in our schools, churches and other public places. It is encouraging us to apply discipline with empathy and love.
It doesn’t take much to love a child. It doesn’t require your money or much attention. Smile at a child. Talk to that child calmly despite his/her ugly clothes and bad shoes. Correct the child and give him/her a hug even though you know his/her father is a-nobody. You just might be saving a child’s life.
This is not for care givers only. Even as a parent or just a person who live around kids, extend a hand of love to any child you see around you. Children have not done us any wrong. It is the world that is wrong
Bible Verse: Mark 9:36-37
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them,37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me
Prayer: Dear Lord, work through me and heal my inner child from any pain or wound that is manifesting negatively in my life today. Let your Divine love and restoration also touch every child that is in need of love, care and protection. Amen
