HOLDING ON TO THE DREAM – Elvira Jordan

HOLDING ON TO THE DREAM – Elvira Jordan Good Morning Beloved! There’s this common saying “Anywhere wey belle face, na im be front”. This may sound very funny but it’s actually the reality people live with every day. A large percentage of people in Nigeria are consciously or unconsciously living this reality, as most people cannot afford to live their best lives and be their best selves because some economic and social factors are limiting them. I am talking about a society where a student who has the dream of becoming a medical doctor will end of studying animal science. A computer science graduating may end up running a POS business. People can no longer walk in the shoes they desire, because life has already give them a ragged bathroom slippers, and they are forced to wear it because they cannot afford anything better. Do you get? Life has a way of trying to determine who we are and what we become, because we are all trying to adjust our movements according to the shoes we wear a...

African CSOs Unite to Share Global South Priorities Ahead of Plastic Treaty INC-5.2

GAIA Africa Hosts Media Briefing to Mobilise African Journalists in Support of an Ambitious Global Plastics Treaty GAIA Africa hosted an online media briefing for African journalists ahead of the resumed fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5.2) on the Global Plastics Treaty. Held on July 24, the session emphasised the critical role of journalists in amplifying the key priorities of African civil society, urging governments to adopt an ambitious position against plastic pollution, and unpacking the treaty’s regional implications. Africa has played a leading role in the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, beginning with the adoption of  AMCEN Decision 19/2 —a landmark mandate by African ministers that firmly established the continent’s priorities. This decision solidified the African Group of Negotiators’ (AGN) common position, committing the region to advocate for a legally binding global treaty that  addresses plastic pollution across its entire ...

Public Hearing: EDEN wants NASS to strip Governors of Powers under Land Use Act

The Environmental Defenders Network (EDEN) has urged the National Assembly to expunge sections of the Land Use Act that grants governors limitless powers to revoke and expropriate lands at will, insisting that practical examples have shown them to be inhibitors of development.   EDEN made this demand and a host of others at the just-concluded zonal public hearing on the proposed alteration to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999. Other demands that EDEN made included a call for enforcement of environment protection to serve as pivotal support for life and livelihoods, citizens’ participation in the budget and the need for independent electoral bodies, among others.   In a memorandum to the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution the group said that under the Land Use Act as currently enforced here is overreach on the part of the governors hence Sections 21, 26 and 28 of the Act should be expunged.   T...

A NEW CIRCLE - Elvira Jordan

A NEW CIRCLE - Elvira Jordan Good Morning Beloved 💛 I am one who is very much in love with numbers and numerology. I believe numbers are the first language… a well organized system of communication between the spiritual and the physical realms.  This brings me to a very peculiar number which is 7. Alas we are in the 7th month of the year 2025, and even the 7th month is wrapping up. In my study of numbers, 7 speaks of completion, wholeness, perfection and the end of a season.  In the world of astrology, there are 3 different planet retrogrades that indicate a completion of a circle, which may unearth the past and bring some buried feelings, friendships, knowledge, experiences, wounds and traumas to the fore.  Even though I don’t understand astrology so much, I believe that some (not all) of these things play a role in our everyday existence and could guide us through life. If you look at your life and the world around you with a bird’s-eye view, you may see patterns of en...

RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE - Elvira Jordan

RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE - Elvira Jordan Good Morning Beloved 💡 A little over a year ago I made a very bad decision. The consequences of this decision didn’t take long to show but the most difficult part of making a wrong choice is trying to do a reverse. Despite this little lapse on my path that has taken me so long to fix, as one who will always seek the little sip of light in every darkness, I held on to the fact that every situation is meant to elevate me, sooner or later and it actually is. Taking a little drift down memory lane, it became obvious that what I may physically read as a bad decision was a path to change… a different school where I had to learn some vital aspects of life and myself. When you learn to see things from a birds-eye-view, you will see that every step, every interaction, every move, every action and inaction falls into a chain reaction of events that take you from one point to another. It is true that some events may have taken you a few steps backwards or slig...
