IRON SHARPENS IRON - Elvira Jordan
Good Morning Beloved! π
Have you ever been so down in spirit and felt so overwhelmed with situations in your life, and then you reach out to a friend, or coincidentally a friend reached out to you just at the right moment, and delivered some words that uplifted your spirit? Or even stood up to the tough situation and helped you out? This must have happened to the best of us.
Then you can also imagine or remember the days when you were so broken in spirit but there was no one to turn to for support… that is the kind of pain that drives people into substance abuse or into making rash decisions they tend to regret later when their minds are calm.
*****
If you have a wandering mind like me, you must have asked yourself some questions that may sound silly when spoken out, but not so silly when you’re churning them in your head, trying to make meaning out of life. Questions like “why did God create in pairs?”
If you watch the world closely, everything was created in twos or more. Two genders. Two halves to seeds, leafs etc; almost every organ in our body are in twos. Even our heart which was created in one piece seems to beat in synch when we find our “significant half”.
Everything was created in twos for recreation, companionship, love, friendship, mentorship, support etc. Let’s take our nostrils for instance. Two holes on one nose but only one does the breathing at a time. One is mostly active while the other is passive. Humans breathe primarily through one nostril at a time due to the nasal cycle, an automatic process controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Every 2-4 hours, erectile tissues in the nasal turbinates swell in one side while the other shrinks, alternating which side takes in more air to regulate humidity, odor detection, and tissue recovery.
You will understand this better when you have catarrh and your dominant nostril is blocked.
God created this dynamic because he knows one cannot stand on its own. When one kidney ails, the other stands as back up. Same with our eyes, ears, hands, legs etc. No specie can recreate without the masculine- feminine dynamic. All well designed to support the other.
This brings me to the topic which originates from a biblical reference, pointing out to the fact that no man (or woman) should exist in isolation.
We have spouses, families, friends and relatives because everyone needs help and support at one point in their lives. We need people to grow, to remain motivated, to check our excesses, to help us motivate ourselves when the need arises, and to push us into being our best selves when we seem to be going astray.
Some of us may have such people around us that keep our fire burning. Some may have them around but do not recognize their value. Some may have walked away from such friends because of friction, and decided to exist alone, which is highly impossible.
Although cutting off from a “rusted iron” may be necessary, but remember that two rusted irons can sharpen themselves and become clean. Or a clean iron can rub against a rusted one and make it clean again.
Today let’s forget about the negative sides of human nature and friendships, and dwell on the beauties that lie within. Let’s be open to human connections, friendships and conflicts, as these will sharpen our minds, our countenance and our lives.
If you have found the iron that sharpens you, always remember that no one is perfect, and that friction may occur once in a while, that may lead to more sharpening of our mind and spirit. Show appreciation to these people and also sharpen them when they need to be sharpened.
To those who have self-isolated due to past pains and troubles, I strongly believe there are good people around you who will be willing to give you a shoulder to lean on in your time of need. When you find them, stick with them and also be their support when the need arises.
It is Iron That Can Sharpen Another Iron. We need human companionships, friendships and support to grow.
BIBLE VERSE: Proverbs 27:17
As Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, today we ask that you open our eyes to see those you have planted around us to lift us up and be our support. Connect us to our destiny helpers and people who will open doors of opportunities to us. Amen.
Do have a Blessed Monday and a Successful Week ahead.
